The Tollymore Festival of O is about bringing the people of our spo rt together to connect\, reconnect\, enjoy the craic and\, of course\, enj oy quality orienteering!\n\nEveryone is welcome to attend\, from any club\ , anywhere and we hope to see our friends from Orienteering Ireland join u s again.\n\nWe would like to encourage our hub members. Even if you aren ’t a member (yet!) but would like to get a real feel for the ethos of or ienteering in Northern Ireland\, The Tollymore Festival is the place to do that\, and you will be assured of a warm welcome!\n\nFor 2023\, we have a n exciting weekend of orienteering and activities based in the Newcastle a rea with camping and Barbeque at Tollymore Forest Park. The events and act ivities will take us beyond our base camp\, to some favourite spots.\nSche dule of Events and Activities\nOrienteering Event 1 - Friday 23rd June - U rban orienteering at Newcastle.\nThe first event of the weekend is staged using the eclectic mix of urban\, parkland and woods of Newcastle town wit h the amazing Slieve Donard as a backdrop. There are three courses on offe r\, Short\, Medium and Long.\n\nParking - car parking (under 7'3") will be in Islands Park\, off Bryansford Avenue BT33 0AY.\n\nMotorhomes and carav ans must park at Newcastle Tennis Club\, off Bryansford Road and follow th e footpaths over to Islands Park. There should be ample room but if this i s full please park your tall vehicles at Donard Park (use SE entrance) and walk over.\n\n Registration/Download  - will be operated from a car in I slands Park. Look out for the banner!\n\nIf you have entered with an SI ca rd\, proceed to the signposted start. If you need to register or hire a fr ee card see registration.\n\nRegistration will open from 6.15pm to 7.45pm. Starts are assigned in 15min blocks from 6.30pm to 8pm.\n\nCourses\n\n L ong  -  5.0 km - Due to road crossings this course is not suitable for U 16s*\n Medium  -  3.9 km - Due to road crossings this course is not sui table for U16s*\n Short  -  1.3 km\n\n*U16s can be shadowed by an adult to ensure safe crossing of roads.\n\nControls will be SIAC enabled with a punching start/finish\n\nEntry prices\n\n Senior  -  £7/£9  (IOF me mber/non-member)\n Junior  -  £3/£4  (mem/non-mem)\n Max charge for family  -  £17/£22 (mem/non-mem)\n\nTO ENTER THE URBAN EVENT CLICK HE RE. \n\nUrban entries close Wed 21st\, 11pm! There will be a limited suppl y of maps for entry-on-day.\n\nSafety\n\nMain roads will be marked as such on the map. You must use any compulsory crossing points or traffic island s marked. Obey instructions from any marshals - they are there for your sa fety. Be very aware of traffic on minor roads too.\n\nSome controls will h ave runners exiting the control against people approaching it. Be cautious of other competitors moving at speed. Always be polite and respectful to other people especially residents whose streets we are using.\n\n \;\n \nRecommend clothing - shorts/vests are permissible as the courses are a m ix of road and parkland.\n\nPlease hydrate and dress accordingly. There ma y be a need for cagoules if the weather demands it.\n\nFacilities - all pu blic toilets will be closed after 6PM unfortunately. This activity is fr ee to enter on the day – no online entry necessary.\n\nExpected start ti me\, approximately 11am.\nCamping\nCamping is available in the Tollymore F orest ‘youth’ camping field (not the main camping area) from Friday th rough to Sunday at a reduced cost of £8 per adult. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Enter Tollymore Forest Park from th e Bryansford Road. There is a one way system and the exit from the park is to the Hilltown Road.\n\nToilet and shower facilities are adjacent to the campsite.\n\n\nBarbeque\nThe Barbeque will be at 18:00 on Saturday. Pleas e indicate on SI Entries your preference for meat or vegetarian. We encour age you  to bring your own cups\, plates and cutlery to reduce single use plastic.\n\nBarbeque costs £15 for adult and £7 for juniors of primary school age\, 12 and under.\n\n\n\nTollymore Festival of Orienteering BBQ\n \n\nBoules\nThere will be a Boules knock out tournament – if you have a set of boules please bring them with you and we can run several matches at the same time.\n\nNIOA AGM will also be held in the group campsite at app roximately 3.30pm.\nBooking and Entry\nBooking for the BBQ and Camping are available by clicking on the link below.
