SUMMARY:LVO Club Score Championships (Postponed indefinitely)
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nDate\nPostponed indefinitely - refunds to be processed. A
  new date will be investigated.\n\n\nVenue\nCairn Wood\n\n\nEvent Format\n
Club Score Championship\n\nAnyone can enter and enjoy a run but only curre
nt LVO members can be classified as eligible/competitive for the title of
Club Score Champion. Note: membership renewal is due on the 1st January!\n
\nIf you are fairly new to orienteering\, don’t let the sound of club ch
ampionship put you off – there are two different courses to choose from
and you are welcome to run round as a pair or family/friendship group (alt
hough to be deemed competitive you need to enter as an individual).\n\n⏰
A score event is different to a normal linear orienteering event in that
there are a number of controls which you can visit in any order you wish w
ithin a set time. Controls may be worth different values and it is very un
likely that you will be able to visit them all. So\, you will need to plan
your best route to get back before the time limit. Lateness back will bri
ng point penalties.\n\nIMPORTANT - This event will have a map flip with al
 l the 10pt controls on side A and the 20pt - 40pt controls on side B. You
must complete all the controls you wish to visit on side A before moving t
o side B. There is a MANDATORY control in the middle which you must visit
once before flipping to the high point controls. All the other controls ar
e optional as per a normal Score course. Beginners and younger juniors may
wish to stick to the easier controls on side A while experienced orientee
rs need to decide how much time to spend collecting 10 pointers on side A
before flipping to the high points.\n\n\nOnline Entry\n.\n\n\nSI Entries\n

e is for two seniors and one junior. Additional juniors go free.\n\n\nTerr
ain Summary\nCairn Wood is a delightful established forest – a mix of pi
ne and deciduous – and very suitable for those competitors wishing to st
ep up from learning courses. Large and medium paths will help juniors\, an
d all routes lead back to the central main path to the car park. Don’t e
xpect those smaller paths to be necessarily that distinct\, but there are
some lovely free running areas\, criss-crossed with ditches and streams.\n
\nA general hillside slopes up towards a quarry running along the south we
st. Much of wood to the south west has also been cut to leave open areas o
f high vegetation. It is heavily used by dog walkers\, so please be carefu
l at the start and finish.\n\n\nPrevious Maps/Routegadget\nThis area was l
ast used for a LVO Autumn Trophy event in September 2023. Routegadget map
and courses can be found here: https://www.lvo.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#515\
n\n\nCourse Notes\n Junior/Novice Senior Course  is suitable for improvi
ng Juniors and novice adults – the ability to use compass and navigate a
way from paths is needed. This is the MW12/14 Championship Course and also
has a time limit of 30 minutes.\n\nSenior Course is suitable for competen
t orienteers. Some controls will be placed far away and in physically and
technically challenging terrain. This is the Senior Championship course fo
r MW16s and over only. This course has a time limit of 45 minutes.\n\nTime
penalties – for every minute/part minute you are late you will be deduc
ted 10 points.\n\n\nFirst Aid and Safety\nThere will be a first aid and a
qualified first aider available at registration. Registration is also a sa
fe place for lost children to wait.\n\nPlease do not come to the event if
you are unwell.\n\nPlease bring and carry any medication you might need\,
especially inhalers and EpiPen’s.\n\nIf you come across an injured or il
l person\, please stop\, help and get further help. There will likely be q
ualified first aiders on the course who can stop to provide support.\n\nAl
l participants must return to download\, whether they complete the course
or not. This is to account for all competitors\, ensuring everyone’s saf
e return.\n\nCourses will close and controls collected in at 12.30pm sharp
. If you are still out on the course at this time return to finish and dow
 nload immediately.\n\n\nKit requirements\nFull body cover is mandatory.\n\
nA whistle (emergency alert is 6 loud blasts per minute) is mandatory.\n\n
A waterproof jacket may also be mandatory if the organisers decide the wea
ther requires one\, so bring one along just in case.\n\n\nParking\nWe will
be using the main forest car-park off the B170 Craigantlet Road. There wi
ll be extremely limited space for competitor’s vehicles – along with t
he public – so you are asked please to consider car-sharing. There will
not even be space for the MOO! Do not park on the side of the road. Dund
onald Park&amp\;Ride is conveniently located at the south end of the Craig
antlet Rd if car-sharing.\n\nIf travelling on the A2 from Belfast directio
n\, please note that the Sydenham bypass will have weekend closures city b
ound\, while country bound will be reduced to single lane.  journey time
could increase. Please allow up to30 mins extra for your journey.\n\n\nToi
lets\nThere’s a public toilet in the car park (normally open) as well as
  the usual coffee/cake van.\n\n\n
