Well those that were put off the first August WEE in the rather damp conditions just missed a treat of sampling Andrew Thompson's courses.
Heard at download:
"That course really made full use of the park"
"You really had to keep your wits about you. There would be a couple of easy controls and then a really tricky one!"
This time last year Andrew hadn't joined the club nor even been to a WEE, so it just shows what can be done with some devious thought and careful mentoring, just to make sure that there were no controls in that uncrossable marsh!
Things didn't go entirely smoothly in the MOO with firstly the generator cord deciding not to retract. So where to look for a solution but in the "Do not panic" box (yes indeed there is one) where an inverter was found to enable the event to be powered up from a car. Then the archive wasn't working properly meaning that names of all regulars had to be typed in, so apologies for the delay. That for all who helped get that sorted especially Conor and Harry. Thanks also to Cecil, our organiser Dee, baristas Ric and Sarah and control collector Shaun.
So next week it's off to Bangor where of course we will have a lovely time (and all for a fiver if you are a member), especially with James showing off his first-time planning skills.
InstructionsAfter the July break, it's back to the August WEE Series with 5 events this year. New planner Andrew Thompson has excellent courses planned to explore the park. The short course is 1.5km and the long is 4.5km both having insignificant climb.
DirectionsVictoria Park runs alongside the Sydenham By Pass, but there is no vehicular access from the dual carriageway. Vehicular access is by a underpass under the railway line and main road at Park Avenue, Belfast, BT4 1LN. The Mobile Orienteering Office will be parked close to the underpass, as it is to tall to go through. However drivers of normal vehicles should drive through the underpass, park in the main carpark and walk back to the MOO, taking care in the underpass.
If coming by train, alight at Sydenham and exit the station from the Belfast bound platform. Turn right and walk along Inverary Drive (in the direction of Belfast with the railway on your right) and then continue along the path beside the railway. You should come to the MOO in about 600m.

SocialAs it is a damp one, we are planning on putting up the dome shelter beside the MOO with refreshments - tea/coffee/juice and buns with proceeds towards our juniors. Please bring some change if you want to avail of this excellent hospitality!
