InstructionsAntrim Hospital WEE kicks off the June series in the Antrim/Newtownabbey area.
As advertised previously people should be aware that the June events are going to be different to normal this year. The two courses will be the same but there will be NO results or League as we switch our emphasis towards newcomers and coaching for members.
The evening activities will follow on from an hospital staff come-and-try-it event, which is essentially the short course. Staff, now you are warmed up, why not try out the longer course too?
For newcomers to the sport and families there will be people on hand to literally point you in the right direction. As well as a Yellow standard Course (2km and 13 controls to find) and an Orange/Light Green Course (3.8km and 18 controls) for the entire month of June we are going to be offering some coaching for those who would like it. Steph will be looking after the youngsters whilst Graeme will be looking after the more experienced. This weeks technique for the seniors will be simplification: Focus on what's important. Following the coaching you'll get a chance to put it in to practice on a test course to see how you're doing, and after that if you still have some energy you can go and do the short or long and put your refreshed skill in to action. For those who just want a run out over the traditional fayre please continue as usual.
Registration will be at the MOO, (chip van) from 6.30pm, starts from 6.45 ish -7.45pm and courses closing at 8.30.pm.
Please note that if you pre-enter,you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the Start. If you are bringing a group, please let us know in advance as it speeds things up on the night.
It is a fairly open course with a little wooded area where leg cover is strongly advised due to nettles being in full glory. It is obviously a busy hospital so special care is needed with traffic (cars and people). We don't want an accident, but on the plus side it's not too far to go to A&E! There will be clear rules and descriptions printed on the back of the map to help prevent us wandering into any out of bounds areas. This includes mandatory crossing points of roads. If you plan to bring a dog, it must be kept under control on a leash.
Not only am I organising a WEE for the first time, is it a new venue and 1:3000 map (thanks Bill!) and we have a new planner (thanks Ric!). Ric loves a critic (or is that a biscuit?), so come along and think your way round the short or long course and feed back to him later (criticism, not biscuits).
Looking forward to seeing you there, Sarah!
