Post-Event Report

Great weather for World O Day in Stormont tonight. Quique thought he was back in Spain! I think the Map Memory provided enough challenge ... apologies to those who spotted a couple of (deliberate?) mistakes on the control descriptions.

AND of course thanks to all those who volunteered and helped on the night- Quique, Dee, Mark and Daniel E, Sophie, Shaun, and the control collectors Marlene, Jill, Sophie, Quique, Graeme, and especially the keenest Ben C.

Instructions

We are in the Stormont Estate, East Belfast for the 4th of the 2017 WEE series. You will need a parking permit to get into the estate -
Please download and print this parking permit and leave it on your windscreen whilst at the event.

ENTRIES Registration will be from 6:15pm at the MOO ( the white burger van )which will be parked half way down Prince of Wales Avenue. If you pre-enter, you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. If you are bringing a group, please let us know in advance as it makes things easier on the night.

MAPS
Purists and Pace counters, please note that due to current map printing difficulties, the map has been laser printed on A4 paper making the scale around 20% off. It is not waterproof, so you may want to bring a map bag.

COURSES and STARTS
There will be the usual two courses available - Short and Long - which are more orientated towards "Come and Try It" rather than competition. In addition, there will be a challenge course for experienced orienteering who want to stretch their skills.

SHORT ( yellow ): 2.1km with 14 controls. This follows paths and is suitable for children and complete beginners
LONG ( orange / light green ): 4.1km with 21 controls. This course gives some opportunity to cut corners and make route choices.
There will be pictorial and written control descriptions on both maps.
CHALLENGE ACTIVITY - Map Memory. Do the Long Course but go without a map and only refer to the maps that are placed at regular intervals along the length of the Avenue.

The start and finish are adjacent to the MOO. Starts are from 6.30-7:45pm. Courses close at 8:30pm (controls are lifted from this time).

SAFETY

Please watch out for other park users - bikers, dog walkers, small kids etc and, of course, any traffic on the avenue.

For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the start and remember to report back to the MOO after you finish.

FIRST TIMER?

If it is your first time orienteering there are always plenty of people on hand to help you get started. Just ask at the MOO and someone will point you in the direction of the "newcomer Welcome" where someone will explain all you need to know.

See you all Wednesday.

Directions

Access to the estate is via the Massey Avenue gates at the NW side of the estate. This is approximately 5 min from the junction of the A55 Ring Road and A20 Upper Newtownards Road.

Please download and print this parking permit and leave it on your windscreen whilst at the event.
