Instructions

LOCATION

We are in Barnett's Park for the second of the 2017 WEE series. Parking is adjacent to Malone House (see the map link in the "Directions" section below).

ENTRIES

Registration will be from 6:30pm at the MOO, (a white "burger" van that doesn't sell burgers!). Please note that if you pre-enter, you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. If you are bringing a group, please let us know in advance as it makes things easier on the night.

COURSES and STARTS

There will be two courses available. The Long course is 4.0km with 15 controls. The Short course is 2.5km with 11 controls. As these distances are measured as the crow flies, the distances for your route will be a bit longer.

The start and finish are adjacent to the car park at Malone House. Starts are from 7:00-7:45pm. Courses close at 8:30pm (controls are lifted from this time).

SAFETY

Please watch out for other park users - particularly mountain bikers. You are asked not to stand on, nor run along the cycle tracks. There will be signs to warn mountain bikers of the presence of runners - but please be aware.

For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the start.

FIRST TIMER?

If it is your first time orienteering there are always plenty of people on hand to help you get started. Just ask at the MOO and someone will explain the map and "how it works".

BONUS?

If you want to have a bit of a laugh at my orienteering efforts look here. I've written up an article on Distance Judgement and Relocation in the Control Circle (including some of my major mistakes!). On the night of the WEE we hope to have a control circle laid out on the ground so you can visualise its size.

Have a good run! Geoffrey
