Curled up by the fire, feeling low, wondering where the summer has gone?
Never fear! For all those who enjoyed the Antrim WEE events in the summer, or for those who are looking for something to do this Sunday; we have another event at Antrim Castle Gardens. Another chance to enjoy orienteering in one of the best parks in NI ( assuming Ophelia hasn’t levelled it ).
There will be something on offer for everyone, whether complete beginner or seasoned pro. All I would ask is that if you are thinking of coming, please let us know for map numbers.
Starts : 2 til 3 p.m.
Courses close : 4.15 p.m.
Cost : £ 2.50 per map
Please either park at the Forum and cross the bridge, or the Castle Mall car park and use the pedestrian crossing to enter the park. We’ll be at the foot of the Motte. ( ‘x’ marks the spot ).
Don’t miss Autumn Trophy 2 at Crawfordsburn Country Park on 28th October. Follow the signs for Crawfordsburn off the A2 Belfast to Bangor Rd – the park is signed to the left before you reach Crawfordsburn village. Follow the one-way road system and park below the Country Park Centre/cafe ( not the car-park closest to the beach.) Registration will be in a car (probably a red people carrier) from 11.30am. Starts are 12-1pm and controls will be collected after 3pm. Courses on offer are Green, Orange and Yellow. Juniors must use the bridges when crossing the river. There are toilets in the beach car park and the cafe will be open for lunches and snacks until 4pm.
See you there
The Grand Finale of the 2017 WEE Series takes place this Wednesday at a new East Belfast venue for LVO. There will be courses, races, results, prizes and, we hope, hotdogs for all.
The new venue is the Councillor Thomas Patton Memorial Park, with the usual offering of long and short courses. In addition there will be a special course for the under 16s who would normally run the long course. As the long course will venture into the adjacent Inverary estate, with a mix of park and urban orienteering, it will have to be restricted to the over 16s.
As this is the finale, results will be published and prizes awarded to the leaders (on handicap) of each course. There will also be awards for all those who have attended 9 or more of the WEEs this year. The evening is for everyone, so come along and enjoy the last of the park based WEEs. You don’t have to be a club member – or even an orienteer – to be able to enjoy the evening. Just turn up and have fun.
Course lengths are 3.6km (long), 2.6km (under 16s) and 1.8Km (short). Leg cover is recommended. Registration will be open from 6.00pm. We hope to start the hotdogs at about 7.30pm so you are encouraged to come a bit early, run, and stay on to enjoy the social.
NOTE: the venue is Councillor Thomas Patton Memorial Park (off Inverary Avenue) NOT Victoria Park
See you there!

The WEE is back on again on Wednesday at Bangor Castle. Parking is by the leisure centre and long and short courses are available. Registration is from 18:00 and starts are from 18:30 to 19:30. Newcomers are very welcome and there will be people about to help get you started. Keep an eye on the forecast, it could be drizzly just for an added challenge.
