Beat The Street Sundays continue – this Sunday 24th Sept it’s East Belfast. We’re meeting at JACK Coffee Bar which is on the ground floor of Eastside Visitor Centre , beside CS Lewis Square on the Newtownards Road (beside box 25). There is nearby parking at the health centre car park, or at Connswater Shopping Centre.
Bring map 2 plus your card or fob if you have them – and if you don’t have them yet then we’ve got plenty to give out as well.
Turn up 2:30 to 2:45, ready for a 3:00 mass start score training; time limit 45 minutes. Explore the sights of East Belfast, including the new Connswater Community Greenway, linking all the way to Victoria Park (if you think you can get there & back in the time limit………..)
Due to insurance all under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone is welcome; the training is nice & informal and a great way to explore.
This training is FREE. Bring a few ££ for coffee & cake afterwards at JACK. I have extensively tested their menu, & am happy to report it’s excellent.
With just 4 LVO events left in 2017 (but lots of other non-event stuff happening, hooray!) it’s time to fill in the blanks on the volunteer roster. Remaining fixtures are:
14th October – Donard Forest
28th October – Crawfordsburn
11th November – Tyrella
18th November – Carnfunnock
You can volunteer for a Key Official role (planner/controller/organiser) or an on-the-day role. Maybe a nice cosy MOO role now it’s getting autumnal out there??? Email firstname.lastname@example.org
Full fixture list (including all the non-LVO events too) is here. Look each individual event on the LVO fixtures list here to check out the roles available.
Just a reminder that the Ballymena urban event has been POSTPONED. It was originally scheduled for this Saturday 23rd. Next O adventures are this Wednesday (training at Lady Dixon, see Andrew’s post) & this Sunday (Beat the Street East Belfast, keep an eye for info coming soon).
On a brighter note, CONGRATULATIONS to all the LVO runners at last weekend’s Mourne Mountain Marathon. Orienteers galore, including Declan & Trevor 4th in B class, Alan & Andrew 2nd in C class, Greg & Aine 3rd plus Stephen & Colin 4th in the new One-Day Score, and finally Paul with (non-LVO) Matthew a commanding 1st in Elite 🙂 Full results are here.
The NI Championships are on Saturday 9th Sept, with a score event on the Sunday, hosted by Fermanagh Orienteers. Championship courses are pre-entry only – don’t miss out! Entries open till midnight on Monday 28th August. There are non-championship colour-coded courses for entry on the day if you prefer.
Never run the NI Champs before? Don’t be intimidated by the word ‘championship’. We don’t have a secret stash of elite NI Orienteers to bring out once a year. It’s still us!!! Join us for a great weekend of orienteering in Fermanagh, and you never know, you might get your name on a shiny trophy too……
Event details are online here
We have just 7 LVO events till the end of 2017 (time to get your Santa wish-list written?). Can I encourage you all to check out the fixture list and volunteer for a role of your choice. If you’re really keen, there are still spots available for tonight’s WEE at Botanic. Conor is a first-time planner so please support him to make the event a success.
Each fixture has a list of volunteer roles still available (click here to see the fixture list), and you can check out what each role involves here.
Let’s finish the year on a high! Email email@example.com
