21st-24th June 2018 is our annual club weekend and it looks like an excellent weekend is ahead. As always we will be camping at Tollymore Forest Park in our own dedicated field and the list of events available throughout the weekend are as follows:

    • Friday 22nd, registration from 6:15, starts from 6:30: Urban Orienteering, Ballynahinch, on a new map by Stephen Gilmore. Registration will be in the Community Centre car park, 55 Windmill Street, BT24 8HB. Competitors should park in the main town car park opposite the community centre and cross carefully to register. Two courses available. There will be three courses:
      1. Long 4km. For adults over 16 only as there will be road crossings.
      2. Medium, 2.3km. Suitable for experienced orienteers, including under 16s. One compulsory, manned road crossing.
      3. Short 1.8km. Mostly on paths but there will be multiple decision points. Technical Difficulty 2-3. Again there is a compulsory manned road crossing.

On courses 2 and 3 competitors must not cross any roads except by the manned crossing point. All courses are a mixture of urban and forest terrain. Full leg cover strongly recommended. Planner: Helen Pruzina, organiser Stephanie Pruzina.  Note band parade in Ballynahinch on Friday evening may (will?) cause traffic congestion – see discussion on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LVOrienteers/

    • Saturday 23rd, registration from 11:00, starts 11:30-13:00 11:30, starts 12:00-13:30, courses close 16:00: NI Colour Series, Slievenagore. Registration is in the Silent Valley Park. When you arrive at gate, state that you are attending the LVO event. No money will be taken by the attendant, however, you will be required to pay £3 at registration – this is a reduced fee negotiated with Northern Ireland Water. **FIRE RISK – SILENT VALLEY** Due to the recent dry weather (as of today 12th June) vegetation is spectactularly dry & flammable.  Strictly no smoking or naked flames (including camping stoves etc) at our event thanks.
      • Saturday course notes from planner Susan
      • Courses are now away to be printed and I hope you enjoy your excursion in the forest (white & yellow courses) and on the mountain (all other courses).  Slievenagore is fabulous technical orienteering terrain (once you get up that hill first of all lol).  Take a moment or two to admire the views while you’re up there.  Underfoot conditions are excellent, and the weather is set to be fine.  Note that the longer courses have been planned at the upper end of the spectrum.  What I’m trying to say is – if you have a tendency to wander, you might be out there for a while.  There is no water provided on the course.  Please consider bringing your own out with you.  It is midsummer after all.
      • The White course is suitable for buggies.
      • Park in the main car park (well sign posted) and, after visiting the MOO, head on up to the start at the dam.  Why not car share and save a few quid too.
      • The cafe will be open and they’ll be only delighted to serve us
      • Volunteers to collect controls after the event will be welcomed with open arms as it means I’ll get to the BBQ on time 😉
      • If you have pre-entered but want to change your course on the day, that’s grand.  Ask at the MOO before you start.
      • Entry on the day is also available for all courses
        • Brown 8.6k / 425m
        • Blue 5.7k / 275m
        • Green 4.9k / 235m
        • Short Green 3.4k / 155m
        • Light Green 3.6k / 150m
        • Orange 3.5k / 115m
        • Yellow 1.9k / 40m
        • White 1.8k / 20m
  • Saturday 23rd, 18:30: BBQ at campsite – please ensure you book your tickets. Adults £10, under 16s £5.
  • Sunday 24th, 10:00: Trail-O training session by Alan Gartside.
  • Sunday 24th, following the Trail-O training session: a Trail-O course by Alan Gartside (60-90 minutes) THIS WILL INCORPORATE THE LVO TRAIL-O CHAMPIONSHIP.
  • Sunday 24th, 12:15: Score Event (45 minutes), Tollymore Monument, on a course planned by Bill Simpson on a section of map he has prepared.

    1. Closing date for online entries and barbecue tickets is midnight 20th June. EOD for events is available, but not for the barbecue. Looks like the weather might be good – pack the sunscreen!
