Spring Cup 2
Romantic forest in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains
Lagan Valley Orienteers welcome you to the stunning Tollymore Forest Park for our second Spring Cup event.
Although the Spring Cup is a club competition, all courses are open to non-club members, including newcomers and families.
Entrance to the park is off the Bryansford Road with registration in the main Car Park. The start and finish are adjacent to the car park.
Registration is from 11am, with starts open from 11.30 -1pm (those planning to attend the AGM please get an earlier start). Courses close at 3pm with controls being collected.
The Forestry Service charges £5 for car-parking – so why not car share and save the environment as well as a few quid. Or get a yearly permit £50 car (£25 for over 60s) see: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/forest-recreation-charges
There will be three courses to choose from:
Stunning trails!
Yellow 1.9km long, 55m climb and 10 controls. Participants will follow trails through some of the most beautiful parts of the forest park, with lots of interesting things to distract you along the way; curiosities, natural and artificial – rocky outcrops and bridges.
Orange 2.2km long, 70m climb and 9 controls. The Orange course follows a similar path to the Yellow but with a few added extras, allowing more route choice and taking you off the beaten track at times to add an extra bit of adventure.

Where is Ric having a rest?
Green 4.6km long, 110m climb and 14 controls. The green course will take runners through all manner of tree cover. On your way round see if you can spot giant redwoods, pines, oak, spruce, cedars and even monkey puzzle and eucalyptus. Although the length is at the top end for a Green course, with good route choice you should find yourself with excellent underfoot conditions and gradual climbs. Map updates have been made specifically for this event, so venture into the thick undergrowth at your peril – you have been warned!

Club AGM
After the race, LVO’s AGM will be held at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre at 3pm. When exiting Tollymore Forest Park turn left and exactly a mile up the Hilltown Road, the entrance to TNOC is on the left.
