Event Description

**Post-Event Report**

Thanks everyone for coming along to our event at Belvoir today.  A beautiful sunny day (even if it was freeeeeezing), and a new map too, meant lots of smiley orienteers.  Hope you enjoyed the challenge.

I’d love to know what routes you took.  You all did a great job of scattering in all directions at the start.  It made the photographer’s job very challenging, I’m told.  Please add your route on routegadget or a comment on Facebook.  Photos will appear in our Facebook group shortly (link here).  I’ve seen a preview – there are some crackers!

Well done to all the prizewinners.  I took a rather avant-garde approach to age classes, promoting you to the class above if you were the highest scorer (and therefore earned a precious egg).  Next week at the NI Championships (link here) if you want to run outside your age class I think you’ll need to declare it at registration.  Today’s results are here.

A big thank you to all our volunteers today.  Couldn’t do it without you!  I (Susan) would like to particularly thank Stephen as today’s Controller.  He, alongside Colin Henderson, extended the map into the urban area, that we used for the first time today.  He tells me he still gets lost driving round it!  Stephen also made extensive map updates to the forest section following the recent felling, making beautiful cartography out of my pen-and-ink artist’s impressions of where the new paths might perhaps go.  Davy very ably looked after all the organisation, including my somewhat random requests (“Can you stop in the garage & pick up 8 creme eggs on your way to the forest?”)

Till the next time………….

Susan (Planner)

Final details for Sunday:

Registration is in the forest car park, opening at 13:45.  Once registration closes at 14:15 we will all walk together to the start, a short distance away from the MOO.  If you are aged 16 or over “adults”, you will have a 45 minute score, starting at 14:30.  If you are aged under 16 “children”, you will have a 30 minute score, starting at 14:45.  So everyone will be finishing at the same time.  Remember a watch!

Swimming in the Lagan is not allowed!

Adults will be using both the forest and the urban area.  The forest is muddy & slidey.  Choose your footwear wisely.  Urban means traffic.  Remember your green cross code.  Here’s a link to a wee reminder  This is the first O event on the new Belvoir Estate map – please be respectful of local residents and stay off private property (marked olive green on your map).

Children will be in the forest area only.  The only traffic you may encounter is on the access road and in the car park.  If you’re under 16 you must run the children’s version (sorry, you can’t ‘run up’ to the adult’s version).  This is one of BOF’s rules.

If you’re new to O, you may wish to run the children’s version, and in addition there is a small practice exercise in the car park.  Don’t be scared by the word ‘championship’, everyone is very welcome.

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

1st event of the year is on the club radar.  Itchy feet ?  Well, get your fix at Belvoir club score champs on Sunday 5th Feb.  The Moo will be located close to, or in the car park . Lets be honest, it’s hard to miss and will be well signed.  Registration is from 13.45 – 14-15 with mass start less than 2 mins walk from the moo at 14.30.  No 2 k hikes for this one. How easy can it be ?  So if you got a new compass or O shoes for Christmas now is the time to make everyone jealous and show off your new gear.

Terrain is a mix of urban and forest or if you are me, that means buildings and loads of green stuff so trail shoes are recommended.  All dogs welcome but must be on leads in the urban area, so you may prefer to leave your Rover at home.

Children under 16 will be in the forest section only, no leads required.

Groups welcome but please let us know in advance so as I can organise enough maps
